Stop searching for InDesign templates Microsoft Word has them

Someone once asked us if InDesign was capable of converting Microsoft Word documents, like it can QuarkXPress and Adobe PageMaker files. Our response was a short and sweet “No.” There’s no need because you can place Word files in InDesign. Then, we started thinking. Hmmm … does that mean it’s also possible for us to draw from the gold mind of templates Microsoft offers? We found the answer to be a resounding “Yes!” Simply save Microsoft Word templates as DOC files and place them in InDesign as usual. You’ll find a wealth of templates in the Project Gallery, as shown in Figure A, as well as at http://office.microsoft.com /en-us/templates/default.aspx.
