The trouble with animated GIFs in CS3

If animation is your game, you may be in for a surprise when you upgrade to CS3—you can no longer open animated GIFs as editable, layered files if you don’t have Fireworks.

 

With any new version upgrade, the adrenalin-pumping new features don’t come without a price, often the sacrifice of a favorite older feature, as is the case here. ImageReady is no longer in production. Most CS2 users may find that as no big loss, as CS2 provided the capability to compile animations directly in Photoshop anyway.

 

However, if you were accustomed to opening animated GIFs directly in ImageReady (pick your flavor) and being able to edit the layers, be warned that you’ll need Fireworks going forward.
