Turn to Illustrator to assist your line art needs

In the article “Power up the ‘pop’ to create eye-catching art” in this issue of Inside Photoshop, we detail how to create pop-art imagery from your line art. But turning photos into line art in Photoshop is a multi-step process. For our sample file, we turned to Illustrator instead.

From raster to vector with Live Trace
Illustrator’s Live Trace feature makes it easy for you to re-invent your raster art by creating workable vector line art. This is a great way to create the stylized line art associated with pop art. Live Trace has preset options to convert images into black-and-white line art.
