Drag and drop between tabbed documents in CS4

I just upgraded to CS4 and I’m having a very difficult time getting used to tabbed windows. I am so accustomed to dragging and dropping between documents and can’t seem to figure out how to do this task anymore. Can you help?

CS4’s new tabbed windows feature keeps your windows organized, as shown in Figure A, but as you’ve discovered, the feature comes with some pitfalls as well. However, like most Photoshop features, you have options. You can drag and drop between tabbed windows, or you can simply disable the tabbed window feature. We’ll show you how to do both options.


To drag and drop between tabbed windows:

  1. Select the layer in the Layers panel that you wish to drag to another open Photoshop file.
  2. Choose the Move tool from the Tools panel and click on your image...
