There may come a time when you need to center an object on your canvas. You could eyeball it, but that isn’t very precise. You could use a mathematical equation to figure out the center, but that’s too much thinking—especially when you can get Photoshop to do it for you. You can easily align layers and, as shown in Figure A, the contents of layers with just a click or two of the Alignment buttons in Photoshop. You’ll need to follow different steps depending on which Photoshop version you use.
To center-align an object in CS/CS2:
1. Double-click on the Background layer to unlock the layer and click OK in New Layer dialog box.
2. With the converted background layer selected, click in the column to the left of the layer you wish to align in the center of the canvas to link it to the converted background layer.
