Is there a way to take a drop shadow layer effect and put it onto its own layer?

Yes, there is an easy way to convert a drop shadow into a layer. In fact, you can create layers from many of the layer effects—but not all. If Photoshop can’t convert a specific layer effect into a layer, you’ll receive a warning box telling you so.

To convert a layer effect into a separate layer:

1.       Select the layer in the Layers panel that has the effect you wish to convert, as shown in Figure ...
