Enable drag-and-drop action from InDesign to Illustrator

I was under the impression that I could drag and drop anything from InDesign to Illustrator and back again. For some reason, I can't even copy and paste! Is there a trick to sharing items between these applications?

You can control the way in which InDesign and Illustrator work together by the way you set their application preferences. To copy and paste or drag and drop items from InDesign to Illustrator, you must have the File Handling preferences set properly.

To enable file handling in InDesign:
1. Choose InDesign > Preferences > File Handling (Edit > Preferences > File Handling in Windows).
