Cut down on production time with customized templa

Added on Saturday 15th of August 2009 11:25 pm EST

A custom InDesign template should include everything that appears consistently in a publication. This may include logos, the folio, a masthead, styles, swatches, and then some. You can even set up frames with placeholder content, as shown in Figure A. In creating a new document based on a custom template, there’s virtually no set up time and you can get right to work laying out your content.

Take our advice
In addition to cutting down on production time, templates offer several other benefits. For example, templates enable you to:
• Eliminate the time it takes to delete past content from recycled documents.
• Reduce the chance for file corruption due to overuse.
• Share layouts with coworkers easily.
• Ensure style consistency.
• Recover from lost or damaged documents more quickly.

Get a head start
If you’ve already spent hours designing your publication in InDesign, you don’t have to start from scratch. You can generate a template based on the most recent document.
