Create straight lines in a snap with the tool of your choice

Is there a trick to drawing a straight line in Photoshop? I am not having any luck at all; my hand just isn’t steady enough I guess.

 

You don’t necessarily need a steady hand to draw a straight line in Photoshop. The Pen tool is an obvious tool choice to get the job done, but then you wind up with a path, which you still need to stroke, or a vector mask, which doesn’t have an outline. It’s actually quite simple to get straight lines with the other drawing and painting tools in Photoshop’s Tools panel.
