Become a Photoshop power-user: Master these keyboard shortcuts (7/CS/CS2)

Added on Tuesday 27th of February 2007 01:28 am EST

Application:

Adobe Photoshop 7/CS/CS2

Operating Systems:

Macintosh, Microsoft Windows

One of the best ways to increase your performance and productivity in Photoshop is to learn the keyboard commands. You may think that learning the keyboard commands will take too much time out of your already busy day, but do it anyway! You’ll be amazed at how much time you’ll save when you regularly use keyboard shortcuts.

Use these tips to get you started on your quest to become a Photoshop power-user by learning keyboard commands:

The next time you need to run a menu command, see if there is a keyboard shortcut listed next to it. (Most menu commands have them.) Then, instead of running the command from the menu, practice the keyboard command right then.

Make yourself a cheat sheet of the keyboard commands and keep it next to your keyboard. You can find many of the keyboard commands in the Adobe help files.

Tip: Alternatively, for comprehensive lists of Photoshop keyboard shortcuts, visit Trevor Morris’s website at http://user.fundy.net/morris/?photoshop01.shtml. Here you’ll find PDFs of keyboard commands to download, covering both Mac and PC platforms, and version CS2 all the way back to version 5!

Resolve to teach yourself at least one new keyboard command each time you use Photoshop, and then practice that keyboard command regularly until it becomes second nature.

Should you update Photoshop CS2 to version 9.0.2?

by Amy Palermo

Application:

Adobe Photoshop CS2

Operating Systems:

Macintosh, Microsoft Windows

If you’re running Photoshop CS2 and haven’t updated to version 9.0.2, the free update is available for download on Adobe’s website. For more information on the update and to access the download files, point your browser to www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=3444 for the Macintosh version update, and www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=3446 for the Windows version update. Then, follow the onscreen instructions.

Here are some of the most significant fixes from the 9.0.2 update:

Photoshop no longer crashes when encountering unsupported file types through the Acrobat Touchup workflow.

Supported files that incorrectly produced an "unsupported color space" message now open as expected.

TIFF files with layer data greater than 2GB now open correctly.

Note: If you haven’t updated to 9.0.1 yet, you can just skip it and run the Photoshop 9.0.2 update instead. The 9.0.2 update includes all of the many fixes from the 9.0.1 update.
